Before Chez Bernard Café

The location was bought end of 1999. It was an apartment where a lovely pensioned couple lived. For many years the former owner passed by the café to see what once was his kitchen, his bathroom, his sleeping room.

Renovation work started after the very cold winter of 1999 – 2000, around mid March. The amount of work to be done was huge. Walls were to be put down; new walls were to be built. Water and electricity had to be totally renewed. Walls had to be painted. New windows and doors had to be placed. Only the heating got some minor adjustments.

After the heavy work of renovation, it was time of the furnishing and the decoration. Furniture was made in Mongolia, all the decoration and equipment was imported from Belgium, some of the decoration and all of the dinner service was brought in from China.

But at last around mid July the café could have it's opening ceremony.
